First FO of the year

The Mitered Crosses Blanket - For Japan by Kay Gardiner

If it's possible to be in love with a blanket, I have surely found true love!  I present it here, in all it's rippled, unblocked glory.  I'm not sure I have enough of the Type A gene to block a blanket.  It will get a light bath here soon, but I simply don't have the heart to pin it out and wait days for it to dry - I want to snuggle under it now!!!  I started this project last March and it was a joy the whole way through.  Those mitered crosses are soooo much fun to knit!  And the Noro Silk Garden yarn?  So much fun to watch the colors change.  I pretty much did the pattern as specified, but I substituted Berroco Blackstone Tweed for the neutral Noro background (this was already an expensive blanket - I just couldn't justify doing the whole thing in Noro - not that I didn't consider it, mind you).  I also did a crochet border around the whole thing, using up bits of leftover Noro for a fabulous color changed all the way around the perimeter.  An applied i cord edge would have taken more time and yarn than I was willing to deal with, while the single crochet only took one episode of Star Trek!  I cannot recommend this pattern enough - a great knit for a great charity.  It's nice to have that feeling of taking-part, you know?  So Go Forth and Knit!  You won't be sorry.
