A place of my own

After ten years it was time to do a little rearranging.  The rooms in this house don't leave a lot of room for change (mostly our furniture fits where it does because it won't fit anywhere else), but there is a wee bit of leeway - hence the new writing spot just for me!  This wall is where the grandfather clock and a little "telephone" table resided.  It was a kind of throw-away spot, really, with no usefulness at all except as a place to rest a pretty basket full of yarn (which simply moved across the room, don't worry).  This was my great-grandmother's writing desk and pretty much the main thing I wanted when she passed away.  She was a very no-nonsense kind of woman and I imagine her paying bills here and writing in her travel journals.  It sat upstairs in our family room, used mainly for storage of random bits and bobs until I came up with the brilliant idea of "rearranging" - consider that sweet little lamp an illustration of the ah-ha moment.  Now I have the perfect place in which to store notebooks, camera cords, stationary and my laptop.  I love to sit here and gaze out the front door at the treetops across the street, listening to the birds at the feeders, surrounded by the house around me instead of being stuck upstairs trying to concentrate amidst the chaos of toys and tv.  Like a little island of peace and happiness.  I think Nana would be pleased.  Next up: the new family room...

Isn't it funny how you live in your house every minute, and all of a sudden it will hit you. Bang! And you think, why didn't I think of that before?

Now I can imagine you sitting there writing in your notebook. I love what you have done with the space and the desk is gorgeous. I want to peek around the corner and down the hallway, it is so inviting.
