First snow fall of the winter

A fine dusting of powdered sugar is building up around here this afternoon. Imagine my surprise when I looked out and saw the first flakes fall from the sky. I don't suppose it will stick around too long, but a girl can dream.

There is something so special about the first snowfall of the season. There is a hushed joy about the neighborhood as people step out onto their porches and wave to one another, cautious but hopeful that the world will stay white for a little while. Up here in the Northwest we don't see a lot of this stuff so we treasure it when it does come (though, I suspect, most of us grown ups are just as happy to see it go in the end...). Pardon me, but I think I have some kids to bundle up and take outside!

Oh it is magical. There is something special about every snowfall where I live. It just doesn't happen that often. I hope it hangs around for the kids to enjoy.
