Home again, home again

We thought about pooling all our worldly goods and buying the beach house next door, but in the end we made it home. I'm taking a break from the Mt. Hood-sized pile of laundry, sticky and sandy floors and questionable leftovers in the fridge for a bit of beach blogging!

We had an excellent time! There is nothing like a long weekend at the beach. It was so refreshing - so rejuvenating - so deep-breath inducing.

The adventures abounded as well. I found an excellent yarn shop literally on the beach and stocked up on souvenir stash. This lovely red with the blue-gray twist is already on it's way to becoming another baby sweater. Just up the street was an old fashioned mercantile/general store where we found items of nostalgia from my generation and Mom's. Owen loved the old fashioned toys we brought back. Of course there was also the beach candy (chocolate and fudge and gummy worms!), the hamburgers eaten on picnic tables, the non-stop snacking on peanuts, popcorn and peanut butter pretzels. We played tag on the beach, drew pictures from the dunes, turned our faces to the sun and breezes and sighed when the the wind blew through the beach grass. Moments like those stay in your mind forever, to be retrieved during times of stress when a whiff of salt air or the whisper of sand under your feet is all that's needed to get you going again.

And, frankly, if she didn't have a job to get back to, Mom would probably STILL be nestled in that daybed on the front porch!

I have to tell you, I am still haunted by your beachside cottage with shells and beach glass in the windows, and fuchsias by the door. I WANT my little guest room with its egyptian cotton sheets and that jam jar of lavender by the bed. I want it so bad! I can smell the air, and feel the wind. Seriously, I am trying to figure out how to bring that feeling to my home. Maybe if I re-do my bedroom...

There are also old lace curtains hanging in the kitchen and a wooden bowl full of lemons on the old kitchen table in the corner...

OK, so here's the plan - when we retire, we buy a beach cottage - nothing fancy, quaint will do - that will be our primary residence - we move back into the duplex for our town home - we go back and forth between places as activities and the mood moves us - of course there is room for family at the beach house - how does that sound?
